The Temecula Valley Players have been a vital part of the local arts scene for over four decades, captivating audiences with their passion for theater and commitment to quality performances. As they approach the 2025-2026 season, marking their 43rd year of dedication and hard work, it’s time to look back at their journey. From modest beginnings to becoming a cherished resident company at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater, the story of the Temecula Valley Players is one of community spirit, artistic creativity, and unwavering dedication.

A Humble Beginning
The narrative of the Temecula Valley Players started in the early 1980s when founders Bob and Jeanne Burns decided to form the Temecula Creek Players. With a vision to offer quality theatrical performances to the valley, they gathered a group of enthusiastic volunteers. This passionate crew laid the groundwork for what would blossom into a flourishing community theater.
In those early days, the group faced numerous challenges. They performed in various locations, each time adapting to the needs and resources of the community. One notable example of this adaptability was their first production of "The Music Man" in a small school auditorium, where they pulled in an audience of nearly 300 people. Each performance not only showcased local talent but also highlighted a genuine love for storytelling.

A Name Change and Growth
As the years rolled on, the group evolved, leading to several name changes that reflected their growth. They transitioned from the Butterfield Stage Players to the Rancho Temecula Players, finally settling on the Temecula Valley Playhouse. Each name change marked significant milestones in their development and one last name change, the Temecula Valley Players.
In 2005, the Temecula Valley Players found their permanent home at the Old Town Temecula Community Theater, which has a seating capacity of 354. This venue offered ample space for growth, allowing them to present larger productions and reach wider audiences. Local residents embraced this change, and attendance for their shows has surged over the years, with ticket sales increasing by approximately 40% since relocating.
A Legacy of Excellence
Over the past 42 years, the Temecula Valley Players have developed a legacy of exceptional theatrical entertainment. Their dedication to high-quality productions has cultivated a loyal following, with eager audiences awaiting each new season. They have embraced a diverse range of material, from classics like "A Midsummer Night's Dream" to contemporary favorites such as "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," showcasing their versatility and talent.
The players' commitment to excellence is further demonstrated through the dedication of over 40 active volunteers each season. These members contribute various skills, whether in acting, directing, stage management, or set design. This cooperative spirit is what makes the Temecula Valley Players a true community theater, where everyone plays an integral role in weaving the fabric of each performance.

Engaging the Community
A hallmark of the Temecula Valley Players is their commitment to community engagement. They believe that theater should be available to everyone, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where all voices are valued.
Over the years, the players have hosted numerous workshops and community events. For instance, their annual youth workshops invite children aged 8 to 16 to learn about acting and production, nurturing homegrown talent. This initiative not only encourages participation but also builds lasting connections among community members.
The Temecula Valley Players actively collaborate with local schools. This partnership has led to over 15 young people securing roles in their productions over the past five seasons. By supporting the next generation of artists, they help ensure that the love for theater thrives in the valley.
Anticipating the 2025-2026 Season
As TVP approaches their next, excitement continues to build. The Temecula Valley Players are preparing for another year filled with unforgettable performances featuring a lineup designed to leave audiences inspired.
Since the Players no longer have a warehouse to store ssets and a multitude of props and costurmes. They have had to rent sets, props, costumes plus right and royalties - all of which are rising in cost.
